Stonegaze is a level 3 basilisk for your D&D table. Its full stat block is below. An eight-legged lizard whose stare can turn a hero to stone.
Stonegaze lives in a garden full of strangely lifelike statues: a surprised goat, a fox mid-jump, a knight who forgot to close his eyes. It is slow and lazy, but nobody who looked it in the eye ever walked away.
At the table, the statues are your warning sign. Clever heroes fight with eyes closed, use a mirror or a polished shield, or simply sneak past while it sleeps in the sun.
